94 points Fine Wine Review: "The Felseneck Spätlese was harvested about three weeks after the Kabinett. This wine is about 95 g/l residual sugar and 7.5-8 g/l acidity. The nose is leesy and open with slate minerality that continues into the mouth and is very long. The wine is light and pure but also has density. 7.5% stated alcohol. (Issue #142; 2014)"
92+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "In contrast to the 2012 Felseneck Kabinett, the 2012 Felseneck Riesling Spätlese from Weingut Schäfer-Fröhlich was made from grapes harvested quite late, with the bunches for this bottling collected between November 1st and 5th. It was produced entirely from thirty-five year-old vines and offers up a superb bouquet of pears, white cherries, lilacs, complex slate tones, just a hint of petrol and a topnote of orange zest. On the palate the wine is medium-full, fresh and zesty, with a superb signature of soil, lovely complexity, snappy acids and outstanding length and grip on the pure and dancing finish. A beautiful wine. 2016-2040. (Mar/Apr 2013)"
92 points Joel B. Payne (Vinous): "Pure bouquet of honeydew melon, magnolia and sweet lime. The velvety, sweet peach pit flavor and salty acidity give this wine an exotic kick. Pure and well balanced, with a lively, elegant finish. Spätleses are seldom better in their youth than this one is. (Jan/Feb 2014)"
