98 points Mosel Fine Wines: "The 2021er Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese is a fruity-styled wine made from grapes harvested in the prime Redellay sector. It offers a beautifully and gorgeous nose of tangerine, fine floral elements, whipped almond cream, vineyard peach, cinnamon, and bergamot. The wine proves superbly balanced on the palate and shows a lot of finesse as fine creamy elements give a velvety side, which is well wrapped into fine spices and zest. The finish shows a lot of energy and presence, but without any undue weight. What a magnificent Spätlese! 2031-2051. (Jul 2021)"

94+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2021 Spätlese from the Wehlener Sonnenuhr from Weingut Schaefer is a gorgeous young wine. The bouquet is beautifully floral in personality in its youthful guise, jumping from the glass in a blend of apple, pear, a hint of the mirabelle to come with bottle age, vanilla bean, wild yeasts, apple blossoms, iris blossoms and violets. On the palate the wine is pure, medium-full and impeccably balanced, with a gorgeous core of fruit, a lovely glaze of sweetness, zesty acids and a very long, focused and complex finish. This is stunning juice! 2028-2075+. (Mar/Apr 2023)"

94 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "Very cool and restrained for this famous vineyard site, but there is some of the floral beauty that we associate with it. The excellent balance of juicy stone fruit character and vibrant acidity runs right through the long, super-clean, stony finish. Limited production. Drink or hold. (9/8/22)"
