93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "[$240 list] The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Fontenys 1er Cru comes from a single 0.5-hectare parcel. It possesses quite a complex bouquet of violet-infused black fruit and a light marine influence (shucked oyster shells). The palate is medium-bodied with fleshy black cherry and mineral-rich blueberry fruit, fine backbone and a very saline finish. Excellent. Drink: 2024-2045. (Dec 2020)"
92 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from 80+ year old vines). A softly oaked nose offers up more elegant notes of plum, cassis and spice that are nuanced by ample earth and sauvage hints. There is outstanding volume to the muscular and naturally sweet, full-bodied and impressively concentrated flavors that brim with dry extract that imparts a velvety mouthfeel and buffers the firm tannic spine shaping the youthfully austere, nicely complex and bitter pit fruit-inflected finale. This needs to develop more depth but it's quite promising all the same. Drink: 2030+. (Jan 2021)"
Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "Here’s a more open and much deeper nose – there’s no reduction driving this, just 100% wine. Wide and so fresh – such cool fruit, such minerality too – Ooh – the blacker fruit is completely secondary to the structure and style of this and I couldn’t care less for this is great wine, academic wine, such complex wine. Such a persistent wine. Great wine. (Dec 2020)"
