96+ points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru Très Vieilles Vignes has turned out brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with scents of cherries, raspberries, licorice, orange rind, rich soil tones, woodsmoke and toasty new oak. Full-bodied, velvety and layered, it's elegantly muscular, with huge depth and concentration, powdery structuring tannin and a long, penetrating finish. This is a prodigious wine, built for the long haul, and it will demand patience to fulfill all its potential. Drink: 2028-2060. (Jan 2021)"

96 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .16 ha parcel in Charmes proper of vines planted in 1885 that have never been pulled up though Roty points out that those that have died over the years have been replanted). This too is slightly toasty though still elegant with its combination of notably ripe red berry, plum, earth and soft floral-suffused nose. There is fine underlying tension to the broad-shouldered, concentrated and markedly powerful flavors that exude a refreshing salinity on the bitter cherry pit finale where a touch of warmth slowly emerges as it sits on the palate. This mouth coating effort is even more structured, and it should be capable of lasting for decades. In short, this is seriously impressive. Drink: 2038+. (Jan 2021)"

93 points Neal Martin (Vinous): "[$625 list] The 2018 Charmes-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru offers intense black and red fruit, woodland, black truffle and dried blood notes on the nose (almost like andouillette). The palate is medium-bodied with a lot of new oak to be subsumed, which is always the way with this cuvée, but it is counterbalanced by fine acidity. Liberally sprinkled white pepper and clove toward the persistent finish. Excellent. (Dec 2020)"

Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(Now 140-year-old vines). Such a silky nose, suggesting a faint spice. Dark-fruited aromas, profoundly so. Impact, depth, growing in intensity, structural but more an accent of such, a super energy to wine also – the balanced combination of energy, intensity and concentration is rare, this is a wine that will live s i g n i f i c a n t l y longer than me. Respect! Such a great finish too. (Dec 2020)"
