95+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The Roty family’s 2013 Charmes-Chambertin “Trés Vieilles Vignes”, which is made from what are probably the very oldest vines in all of Burgundy, is also brilliant in this vintage. The bouquet is young, pure and black fruity, wafting from the glass in a blend of cassis, dark berries, grilled meats, espresso, a fine base of dark soil tones, cedary, plenty of smokiness and an exotic touch of eucalyptus in the upper register. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite youthful, with a rock solid core, excellent transparency, ripe, well-integrated tannins and great focus and grip on the very long finish. 2025-2085. (Nov/Dec 2015)"

95 points Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(from a .16 ha parcel in Charmes proper of vines planted in 1885 that have never been pulled up though Roty points out that all those that have died over the years have been replanted). An elegant, pure and broad-ranging nose is composed of very fresh, cool and airy aromas of both red and dark currant, spice and earth scents where the wood treatment is admirably subtle if again not invisible. There is a lovely mouth feel to the attractively intense and well-concentrated flavors that coat the palate with dry extract before culminating in a refined, well-balanced and beautifully persistent finish. Like the Griotte this is an overtly robust and powerful wine that will require an even longer snooze in a cool cellar. Drink: 2031+. (Jan 2016)"

93+ points Stephen Tanzer (Vinous): "Good deep red. Aromas of black cherry, minerals and smoky oak. Plush and sweet but energetic too, boasting terrific concentration to its deep, primary flavors of black raspberry, black cherry, licorice, minerals and dried flowers. With its creamy old-vines intensity and inner-mouth tension, this wine made me shiver. Big, broad, dusty tannins will hold this grand cru for many years. A very strong performance but will it eventually display the nuance for an even higher score? Drink: 2023-2036. (Mar 2016)"

93 points Neal Martin (Wine Advocate): "The 2013 Charmes-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes has a broody, surprisingly introspective bouquet with raspberry coulis, blackcurrant and sous-bois notes, although to be frank it does not put any gap between itself and the 2013 Gevrey Fontenys. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition, not quite as sensual as other Charmes-Chambertins that I have tasted, just a prickle of white pepper towards the finish, but it declines offering that knockout punch on the finish. And as such, pound for pound I prefer the Fontenys this year that seems to possess the same level of complexity. Drink: 2019-2035. (Jan 2016)"
