95 points Monica Larner (Wine Advocate): "[$95 list] The Giovanni Rosso 2016 Barolo Cerretta is a tight, focused and high-energy expression of Nebbiolo. Red and purple fruit aromas of cassis, dried cranberry and cherry provide pretty highlights, but ample space is given to those equally pretty aromas of licorice, campfire ash and candied orange peel that so deftly play supporting roles. To the palate, this is a glossy, polished wine with enough tannic kick to carry it forward for another 10 or 20 years of cellar aging. Drink: 2023-2045. (Jul 2020)"
93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Ceretta lies in the northern half of Serralunga d’Alba, with the Rosso family owning 3.5 hectares of vines in this lovely amphitheater of a vineyard. They have owned vines here since 1920. There was some partial replanting in both 1984 and 2000 in the Rosso parcels, but there remains also plenty of old vines here, and with more clay in the soil than in Serra, it produces a more broad-shouldered example of Barolo. Like the Rosso family’s Serra bottling, this is fermented in cement vats and raised in a combination of twenty-five and fifty hectoliter foudres, with the period of elevage ranging from eighteen to thirty-six months, depending on the style of the vintage. The 2016 Ceretta delivers a deep and nascently complex bouquet of black cherries, camphor, gamebird, a fine base of soil, bonfire, red curry and a hint of cedar. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and rock solid at the core, with excellent transparency and grip, ripe, well-integrated tannins, fine focus and a long, seamlessly balanced and extremely promising finish. This is outstanding wine in the making. 2035-2085+. (Jul/Aug 2021)"
