94 points Luis Gutiérrez (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Cíes was produced with vineyards from Meaño, fermented and matured in 225-, 300- and 400-liter oak barrels with grapes from the vineyards that were used for the original Leirana from Forjas del Salnés. These are the first grapes harvested, looking for a young wine with a short élevage. As each barrel is going to be slightly different, the blend is going to have nuance and complexity. This is a bit more concentrated and ready early on, perhaps the effect of the smaller barrels. The wines from the villages in the Meaño valley tend to have more acidity, and in 2018, this is sharp and saline, with a citrus twist. They always buy used barrels and do not want the wines to have any effect from the toast (sometimes they have to discard a specific barrel that has marked the wine). This will benefit from a little more time in bottle. It developed an iodine note as the wine sat in the glass. 5,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2019. Drink: 2020-2025. (Jun 2020)"
