96 points Stuart Pigott (JamesSuckling.com): "Aromas of pristine orange blossom here, together with a strong infusion of slate and orange aromas that swerve into orange peel, kumquat and tangerine territory. The palate has a very intense core of essence-like fruit and the acidity really claims the palate in a classic way here. Umami finish with porcini-like notes. Drink over the next two or more decades. (12/16/19)"

95 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "The 2017 Bernkasteler Lay Auslese (Gold Capsule), AP 16 18, is generous and intense on the nose, with weathered slate and super ripe Riesling aromas. On the palate, this is a smooth, lush, generous and highly refined Auslese, but it's not as concentrated or as sweet as the other Gold Capsule bottlings; if you think of an orchestra, this wine is the strings rather than the whole orchestra with timpani and trumpets. Tasted in March 2019. Drink: 2020-2050. (Jun 2019)"

93 points Mosel Fine Wines: "This 2017er Bernkasteler Lay Auslese GK is still quite restrained at first, and only gradually reveals its beautiful nose of tangerine, passion fruit, quince and ginger cake. The wine is superbly creamy and sweet on the delicately suave palate. With airing, some riper fruits join the party and underline the overall rich and round structure of the wine. The finish has a touch of freshness through candied grapefruit and fresh mango. This is a delicious Auslese GK which will however need more than a decade to fully blossom. 2032-2057. (Oct 2018)"
