Three Glasses, Gambero Rosso: "We have always like Piero Palmucci's Brunello Riservas and that tradition continues this year with Three Glasses for his Il Decennale '01, the Riserva, although it doesn't say so in the name. The DOCG boards, inexplicably, did not consider this quintessentially typical Montalcino wine to be true enough to type. Not everyone, it seems, is able to understand the local and the great wines that originate there. This wine presents a textbook hue and makes a big impact on the nose with aromas of fruit, tobacco, medicinal herbs, floral hints and refreshing balsam. The palate is elegant in style and exceedingly well balanced, with everything in place and no flaws or forcing. The tannins are already resolved and perfectly complement the acidity, taking the wine through to a very stylish finish."

94 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): "Readers will also want to consider the estate's 2001 Il Decennale, a wine Palmucci describes as his version of a 2001 Brunello Riserva. Il Decennale, conceived to celebrate the estate's 10th vintage, is 100% Sangiovese that spent six years in cask prior to being bottled without any fining or filtration. This classically-built, medium-bodied wine offers lovely purity and clarity in its ethereal notes of smoke, underbrush, tar and ripe red cherries in a style that recalls the Brunellos of Gianfranco Soldera. Despite its understated personality, it offers outstanding persistence on the palate and finessed tannins that carry all the way through to the finish. Today the wine comes across as quite fresh. It will surely benefit from another few years of cellaring which will allow for its full breadth of nuances to emerge. This is a terrific example of Sangiovese from Montalcino. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2023. (Apr 2008)"

94 points Eric Guido (Vinous): "The 2001 Il Decennale is brooding, dark and savory in the glass, opening with dusty black cherry, woodsy florals, crushed stone and minerals, as wild herbal tones develop, gaining sweetness to its fruit with each swirl. Here I find soft, enveloping textures, seemingly weightless at the same time, showing citrus-tinged cherry and savory spice, as a tug of gentle acidity adds lift to it’s residual tannin. The finish seems to go on and on, relentless through its vibrant core of tart berries, with minty herbs and tongue-curling acids just begging you to take another sip. What a wine, and what a pleasure to taste it in what is sure to be a long and pleasurable drinking window. Tasted from my own collection held in professional storage. Drink: 2021-2041. (Mar 2021)"
