98 points Jeb Dunnuck: "This estate produced a blockbuster in the vintage, and the 2016 Château Péby Faugères, based on 100% Merlot aged in 65% new oak, plays with the best of the best. Coming from the oldest vines on the estate and from a southeast facing slop of unique brown limestone soils, this puppy sports a saturated purple color as well as straight-up sexy notes of sweet red and black fruits, dried earth, graphite, tobacco leaf, and hints of chocolate. Deep, full-bodied, and beautifully concentrated, with a seamless, layered texture, it’s another brilliant vintage for this cuvée. It will be drinkable in just 3-4 years and keep for two decades or more. Drink: 2022-2042. (2/28/19)"

97 points James Suckling: "Intense black olives and blackberries on the nose with forest fruit and black truffles. Full-bodied, yet tight and focused with ultra-fine tannins and a savory, salty and juicy finish. Needs four to five years to open. Try after 2024. (12/3/19)"

94-96 points Chris Kissack (Winedoctor): "This is another estate divorced from its parent as a consequence of the 2012 classification, but still benefitting from all the energy and investment of Silvio Denz. From 7.45 hectares of vines a very modest crop of just 22 hl/ha was taken, all Merlot, picked between October 3rd and the 19th. As with the other Denz properties, with the advice of Michel Rolland the wines are made using vinification integrale, with 40 days of maceration before the skins are removed. The oak used is 65% new, and 35% second-fill. A very impressive nose here, a melange of black cherry liqueur, smoke, sooty charcoal, blackcurrants, damsons and currants too. The palate has volume, a finely grained substance, and a fresh, grippy poise. This has a voluptuous weight and yet it feels balanced, correct, charming, with little dark chocolate complexities and coffee bean nuances to the fruit, mixed with firm but appropriate tannins, and the freshness of the vintage lifts and pushes it all along. Super potential here, perhaps the best Péby-Faugères I have tasted. (Apr 2017)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "There's fruit for days here, with a beautiful display of cassis, raspberry and blackberry puree flavors seamlessly entwined, while light anise and violet notes fill in the background. Polished and long, with a subtle graphite hint holding the finish. Gorgeous. Drink now through 2035. 917 cases made. (3/31/19)"
