95 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): "Produced from what is nearly a monopole grand cru - Domaine Taupenot-Merme owns 0.004ha - Clos des Lambrays is always marked by its 90% whole bunches, but the style is very well done in 2017 under new cellarmaster, Boris Champy. With 50% new wood framing the palate, this is subtle, nuanced and focussed, with polished tannins and bright acidity. Drinking Window: 2025-2035. (Oct 2018)"
95 points Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator): "[$337 list] Sandalwood and cardamom aromas signal this cherry and black currant-flavored red. It's sleek and underlined by a graphic element that, along with the vibrant structure, drives the dense, powerful finish. Best from 2023 through 2040. 165 cases imported. (5/31/21)"
93-95 points Jasper Morris, MW: "Dense rich purple black. There is a luxury coating of velvet here and a suggestion of good density. 38 hl/ha. Surprisingly succulent, dark fruited wine, stops just short of chocolate, pH is a touch higher than usual at 3.55 compared to average of 3.48. Boris is good on details like this! Softer finish, a little more viscosity, higher tannin index too but doesn’t show. Boris describes this as a modern classic vintage. Certainly less raw than sometimes in the past. Still in barrel, un-racked. Tasted: November 2018."
94 points Fine Wine Review: "2017 was the last vintage that Thierry Brouin was responsible for (and Boris Champy worked with him on it). The nose is still dominated by oak, and possibly some reduction. The mouth is silky and pure with spicy red fruits. It is medium-weight with freshness, but not a ripe, dense, or deep as the 2018; instead it is more a vintage of finesse. (12/13/19)"

Bill Nanson (Burgundy Report): "(90% stems, 50% new oak from François Frères.) Perfumed, more silky, though a slightly less overt nose. Hmm, this has such width and then melting, flavour, more overt oak, but this is a wine with beautiful shape and fine texture. A faint caramel from the oak today. Excellent! (Jul 2018)"
