93+ points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The grapes used in the Rheinschiefer cuvée from Weingut Peter Jacob Kühn all come from the Hallgarten vineyard and are planted on pure slate. The wine is fermented in the customary combination of stainless steel and old oak fuders and the 2018 is again a very svelte twelve percent alcohol. It delivers a beautiful aromatic constellation of apple, a touch of pear, bee pollen, straw, white flowers, a lovely base of slate and an ephemeral and totally captivating topnote of “woodsy” notes that are as much botanical as floral. On the palate the wine is deep, pure and racy, with a full-bodied and seamlessly balanced format, a fine core, excellent mineral drive and a long, nascently complex and vibrant finish. This is still a young wine and needs some time in the cellar to unwind, but it will be superb once it is truly ready to drink. 2025-2055. (Mar/Apr 2021)"

91 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "From the cooler sites, such as Hendelberg, Würzgarten, Schönhell and Jungfer, the 2018 Hallgarten Riesling Trocken Rheinschiefer displays a beautifully clear, intense and spicy, slate-driven bouquet that reveals perfect fruit ripeness. The palate is racy-piquant, pure and fresh, crystalline and salty, with a crunchy slate structure and stimulating grip. Tasted in May 2019. Drink: 2020-2034. (Jan 2020)"

91 points David Schildknecht (Vinous): "Sea breeze, chalky quarry dust and lemon peel on the nose have their inner-mouth counterparts in mineral suffusion and invigorating piquancy, coupled with an appealingly glossy feel. The finish is impressively gripping in a minerally way, while possessing more than enough appley and lemony juiciness to refresh. Drink: 2021-2024. (Apr 2021)"
