100 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "The 2017 G-Max from Weingut Keller is simply brilliant. Again, the inherent elegance of the vintage is very much in evidence here, with the wine showing magical minerality and lift from the short crop and the great quality of the growing season. The youthful nose offers up scents of pink grapefruit, tart orange, a touch of lemongrass, gentle notes of wild yeasts, a very refined base of limestone soil elements, a nice dollop of smokiness and an exotic topnote of spiced meats. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and racy, with a great core, outstanding focus and grip and impeccable balance on the very long, vibrant finish. There is a sense of seamless electricity and endless backend lift in the 2017 G-Max that is simply amazing. 2030-2095. (May/Jun 2018)"

97+ points Mosel Fine Wines: "AP: 39 18. The 2017er Riesling Trocken G-Max comes from an undisclosed source of Estate grapes harvested in Grand Cru sites. It offers a breathtaking nose, where a hint of initial reduction quickly gives way to magnificent scents of fresh notes, white peach, minty herbs, gooseberry, spices and plenty of zesty fruits. The wine is packed with immense energy and proves hugely complex on the multi-layered palate, and leaves a stunningly racy, compact and vibrating feel in the almost painfully dry finish at this early stage. This raw jewel needs time and some smoothing at the edges to shine. There is even some upside potential, especially as the herbal elements melt into the wine and bring freshness and depth. This is unlikely to happen before a decade. 2033-2047. (Jun 2019)"

Lime and crabapple offer welcome bright, tart juiciness while staining the palate with the piquancy of their seeds – an impression reinforced by a bittersweet note of chewy almond skin. In an effort not to be outdone in vibrancy by its impressive Grosses Gewächs siblings – in particular, the Abtserde – this wine, too, shakes up the mouth as it deposits a nearly ineradicable array of smoky, stony, oily, alkaline and other, hard-to-name mineral traces. Has the fumey mineral character of the Pettenthal Grosses Gewächs on the nose but also a peachy citrus fruit note and a light herbal quality on the palate. Eye-watering acidity and purity. More linear than the Abts E and the Morstein GGs, more direct and arrow-like. Incredibly primary and not ready, for tasting let alone for drinking. With such intense wines in the 2017 vintage, the G-Max does not stand out as much for its intensity as in other vintages, but the length is immeasurable. Drinking Window: 2027-2035. (2/17/18)"
