96-99+ points Jeb Dunnuck: "A wine that’s going to push the upper limits of my scale, the 2018 Côte Rôtie Côte Brune is the most structured, brooding, yet massive example of this cuvée I can remember tasting. Inky colored with an inward array of black fruits, scorched earth, olives, smoked game, and spring flowers, it hits the palate with tons of fruit, full-bodied richness, and building tannins. It’s a magical wine in the making, but it’s going to take a decade of cellaring to show it. (12/12/19)"
97 points Matt Walls (Decanter): "This is expressive and cheerful with potpourri, cedar, blueberry and blackberry. There’s no lack of its signature fresh and dried rose petal aroma, which is unexpected for a hot vintage, and very welcome. It has a menthol freshness with no over-ripeness of flavour. From a year described as very 'solaire' as the French would say, very ripe with slightly higher alcohol than a typical year but a wine here that is soft, rich and easy-going, with ripe, juicy tannins. This is the only single-vineyard bottling, made every year, and they have no plans to make any others - though when pressed they wouldn't rule it out! 2,000 bottles made in 2018. Drinking Window: 2026-2044. (Oct 2020)"
96-97 points Josh Raynolds (Vinous): "Powerful, mineral-accented aromas of ripe black/blue fruits, candied flowers, olive and exotic spices show outstanding clarity and a hint of smokiness. Sweet, chewy and focused on the palate, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, bitter cherry and floral pastille flavors that show serious energy for their brawn. A vibrant mineral nuance drives an extremely long, youthfully tannic finish that leaves behind a suave violet note. (May 2020)"
