WHWC Staff Notes: "A Pinot from the vineyard that started it all. When you used to think of California red wine, a few varietals would come to mind: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Zinfandel. Then in 1998 Rex Pickett came to Santa Barbara County, exploring the wines, people, and landscape. Hanging out at Hitching Post 2 restaurant in Buellton, Pickett ended up completing the script that would turn California wine on its head. The script was the now famous “Sideways” (2004), a movie that made wine fun, entertaining, and moreover, started a Pinot Noir boom that continues today. Playing almost as big a role in the film as its stars, Hitching Post became a symbol of wine worldwide and would now be more sought after than ever... Their single vineyard 2017 Sanford & Benedict has historically been exclusive to wine club members and restaurants (hence, no rating). With a few years of bottle age, the 2017 Sanford & Benedict Pinot Noir is unbelievably delicious and true to its origin. Unfortunately, we were only able to secure 5 cases... so act fast before it all sells out. Again, you will not find this wine anywhere but here!" -Ryan January, 7/30/2022
