96+ points Richard Jennings: "Bricked light-medium red color with pale meniscus; gorgeous, mature, cherry, dried cherry, graham cracker, fig preserves, light cedar, marzipan nose; delicious, complex, dried fig, dried cherry, spice, plum, black cherry palate with good balancing acidity; long finish. (5/11/17)"

96 points Roy Hersh (For The Love of Port): "A smidge darker than the 1970 Taylor that came before it. Dark ruby with a garnet core and slight bricking rim. This had a 4 hour decant and got better 1-2 hours after my first eval. Sweet strawberry and boysenberry fruits. Bright, rich, unctuous, agreat showing of this wine and the crowd went wild. I love the texture and fullness of this Graham. Structurally à point, an outstanding bottle and “complete” VP filled with years to enjoy. (7/23/16)"

94 points Wine Spectator: "This is an extremely full-bodied, powerful wine, but it still retains a classy balance. Deep ruby, with chocolate and berry aromas, full-bodied, with anise and dried cherry flavors, full, hard tannins and a long finish. Good now but a few more yearsof bottle age would improve it. (1989)"

94 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "I drank quite a bit of the 1970 Graham’s over the course of the 1990s, but had not crossed paths with a bottle in several years until this most recent example. The wine is superb in 1970, as it displays a bouquet of voluptuous complexity, offering up scents of black cherry, plum, cedar, fresh mint, chocolate, a bit of tobacco leaf, and lovely, estery floral topnotes. On the palate the wine is focused and opulent, with fine framing acidity adding a note of precision to the attack, and with excellent freshness and balance on the softly tannic, long and creamy finish. This is a classic example of Graham’s in its more extroverted and fruit-driven style, and it should continue to drink well for the next forty or more years. 2003-2050. (Jan/Feb 2007)"

19/20 points Richard Mayson (The World of Fine Wine): "More pinkish in hue than the Taylor, if very slightly paler; rich, classic extra-dark chocolate character (80% cocoa solids!) on both nose and palate, very sweet and opulent in the Graham style, full and smooth, with broad, ripe tannins building on to a towering finish. Continuing full and broad. An underappreciated classic, as good as anything from 1963 or 1966. This will last a lifetime! (Issue #33; 2011)"

19/20 points Jancis Robinson: "First vintage made by the Syms – a vintage that effectively paid for the purchase of Graham's. A wine with a particularly interesting history. The Portuguese revolution broke out just after this was shipped. As an insurance policy the Syms bought back some 1970s and stored them in the north at Whittalls. They sell it at a premium today. The decision to buy Graham's was crucial for the Symingtons - they had great stocks. This was the last year that vintage port could be bottled in the UK. Dark garnet. Very bright. High-toned and fresh on the nose and beautifully dry and liquorice and yet full of glorious floral fruit. Dry but not drying finish. Real beauty now. Long and glorious. Drink: 1995-2040. (9/9/16)"

5 stars, Michael Broadbent's Pocket Vintage Wine Companion: "The Symington's first vintage after purchase from the Graham family. A superb wine: fragrant, flowery bouquet and flavour. Sweet of course. Drink: Now-beyond 2015. Last tasted Sept 2006."
