Producer notes: "100% Cesanese from the Lazio region of Italy. Color: ruby red verging on a garnet red with aging. Bouquet: Delicate with a presence of rose, violet and dark cherry. Palate: Sweet spices with tobacco. Pairing Suggestions: Mature cheeses, main dishes with meat and mushroom sauces, spicy dishes, red roasted meats."

WHWC Staff Notes: "It's no secret that various regions of Italy fancy themselves superior to others. Possibly none more so than Lazio, in the heart of Italy and the home of Rome. The local Cesanese grape has been cultivated in Lazio since the age of the Roman Empire, although few outside of the region had ever heard of it until it made headlines as the predominant grape in a new wine produced by an adult film star. As most people know (or grudgingly admit), sex sells! Not all of the Cesanese wines require scantily-clad wine labels for people to stop and take notice, however. The Formiconi brothers have taken their father's 60 years of winemaking knowledge and focused it on becoming the masters of Cesanese. Cesanese di Affile is a distinct sub-variety of the Cesanese grape unique to the commune of Affile. This is a light-bodied, soft red with a nose of violets, rose, and dark chocolate, accompanied by flavors of ripe cherry and baking spice. I will be grilling Korean Bulgogi this weekend and can't wait to pop the cork on a slightly chilled bottle of this Roman masterpiece!" - Matt Bayless, 9/9/16
