An agreeably fresh if restrained dark berry fruit nose of newly turned earth and sauvage notes leads to strikingly intense, powerful and concentrated medium-weight flavors that are built on a pungent minerality, all wrapped in a complex, explosively long, balanced and driving finish. The 2012 Gevrey Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers from Maison Faiveley is more backward on the nose with woodland, tree bark aromas infusing the red berry fruit that gain intensity quite rapidly in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, crisp acidity and a lively, quite peppery finish that has plenty of character.
