95 points Matthew Luczy (Decanter): "The most svelte and snappy of the DuMol Syrahs, showing aromas of dark fruit, black pepper, cedar and dried flowers. After considerable air, notes of charcoal and burning embers emerge, surrounding a deep core of black fruit flavours. Tight and coiled at the moment, but with more stuffing and complexity to come. Drinking Window: 2024-2039. (Dec 2020)"

95 points Wine Spectator: "Dynamic and expressive, with impressively layered raspberry and huckleberry flavors that are laced with garrigue and peppered beef and build tension toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2030. 194 cases made. (5/31/21)"

94+ points Jeb Dunnuck: "Smith makes two Syrahs, both leaning toward the cool climate, spicy, complex end of the spectrum. Coming from a site on the Sonoma Coast and only 50% destemmed, the 2018 Syrah DuMOL Estate Vineyard offers a meaty, smoky, dense bouquet of peppery dark fruits, bouquet garni, violets, and damp earth. Reminding me of a top Saint-Joseph, it's medium to full-bodied, has ripe tannins, beautiful purity, and a great finish. 200 cases were made. (5/21/20)"

94 points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2018 Syrah Estate Vineyard has come together beautifully since I last tasted it. A whole range of floral and savory aromatics give the 2018 striking presence that works so well with its mid-weight, nervy structure. I like the energy and focus here so much. Drink: 2023-2033. (Jan 2021)"

93 points Erin Brooks (Wine Advocate): "Deep ruby-purple in color, the 2018 Syrah Estate Vineyard opens slowly to cassis and macerated blue fruits with touches of dried herbs and milk chocolate. The palate is surprisingly fresh and silky, its juicy fruits lifting ethereally from the palate on the long finish. Drink: 2020-2026. (Sep 2020)"

93 points Connoisseurs' Guide: "A superbly crafted effort boasting an admirable combination of polish and potency, this one gets very high marks for its varietal precision and its firm yet slightly supple palatal impressions. It is, admittedly, more than a little bit ripe, yet it has wonderful acidity for balance and great depth. It will age spectacularly based on its vitality rather than its well-moderated tannins, and while the other DuMOLs in this tasting are fine wines in their own rights, and do deserve cellar aging, they are somewhat more obvious in personality. (Oct 2020)"
