94 points La Revue du Vin de France: "Francois de Nicolay makes us touch excellence with his fresh but intense wines, with free but precise fruit.... Still in the imprint of the grape, Ile de Vergelesses has scents of wild strawberries, which echo a pulpy and graceful substance, endowed with a fleshy fruit. (2022)"

92-94 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2019 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile de Vergelesses is very promising, mingling aromas of cherries and berries with hints of peony, orange rind and forest floor in an incipiently complex bouquet. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's charming and complete, with supple tannins and a concentrated core of fruit. (Jan 2021)"

93 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "About a third of the domaine’s fine holdings in Île de Vergelesses are very old vines, and these were picked ahead of the Sirocco weekend, with the younger vines being gathered at the same time as the les Lavières a few days later, when that hot south wind was blowing. The wine has turned out beautifully, with the old vine portion of the blend adding a sense of vibrancy that really augurs well for its long-term evolution. The nose wafts from the glass in a youthful mix of cherries, woodsmoke, pigeon, coffee, a complex base of soil tones, just a touch of new oak and a beautiful topnote of sweet stem tones from the whole clusters. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and nicely structured out of the blocks, with an excellent core of fruit, fine soil undertow, ripe, buried tannins and lovely balance and grip on the long and complex finish. This is an excellent wine in the making! 2029-2065. (Jan/Feb 2022)"

93 points Charles Curtis, MW (Decanter): "From a parcel of more than 3ha in this premier cru, perfectly exposed to the southeast. The best of the red is fermented with about two-thirds whole clusters, before ageing in older casks to produce this wine that is initially somewhat backwards, but opens with time to show a pleasant blackberry fruit and mineral notes. The texture is fresh and tightly wound, with grippy tannins leading to a very rewarding finish. Drinking Window: 2024-2039. (Oct 2020)"

93 points Bruce Sanderson (Wine Spectator): "[$93 list] A touch subdued, yet this is silky and fragrant, boasting sandalwood, vanilla, black cherry, black currant and violet flavors underlined by vivid acidity. Balanced and approachable now, yet should age gracefully, too. Drink now through 2035. 500 cases made, 75 cases imported. (2022)"

91-93 points/'Outstanding,' Allen Meadows (Burghound): "(a mix of vine ages though the oldest date from 1938). An even more floral-suffused nose offers another step up in elegance with its attractively spiced aromas of rose petal, violet, sandalwood and cool red cherry. The sleek, intense and sophisticated medium weight flavors brim with minerality and dry extract on the balanced, persistent and complex finale. This mildly austere effort will need most of a decade to arrive at its peak - well worth seeking out. Drink: 2029+. (Apr 2021)"

90-93 points Jasper Morris, MW (Inside Burgundy): "Not yet racked. Rich purple colour and significant weight to the nose, some liquorice touches to add to the dark raspberry, there’s a genuine mineral fresh touch to this over and above the acidity. Very good. All whole bunch except a few young vines. (Oct 2020)"

92 points Peter Moser (Falstaff) (8/18/22).
