94-95 points Steen Öhman (Winehog): "The Clos de Vougeot is brimming with juicy and fresh fruit – a great year for this vineyard. The Berthaut plot is located in the bottom of the vineyard where the frost was more lenient – still quite some yield was lost. The nose is crammed with fruit – cool and vibrant with a nice deep mineral touch. On the palate very fine concentration – with the 2016 acidity giving a nice balance and freshness to the wine. Dense purple, with little detail on the nose yet, a touch of spritz, attractive medium weight plus fruit, some elegance, stretches properly across the palate. (Jan 2018)"

A very mild floral hint adds elegance to the ripe red berry fruit and distinctly earth-inflected nose that is trimmed in just enough wood to mention. There is excellent richness to the impressively scaled and overtly powerful broad-shouldered flavors that possess fine balance and focus on the lingering and youthfully austere finale. This is pretty much a textbook example of the appellation though note well that extended patience will be required if you wish to enjoy this at its apogee. Drink: 2031+. (Jan 2018)"
