93 points Tim Atkin, MW (Decanter): "Not everyone in Gevrey-Chambertin got the vintage right in 2018, but Sylvie Esmonin nailed it, making one of her best-ever Clos St-Jacques. Sourced from a 1.6ha parcel that's effectively her back garden, this was made with 75% whole bunches, as it usually is, and is effortlessly rich, layered and complete, with masses of perfume, deftly handled new wood, palate-coating tannins and a long, mineral-fresh finish. Drinking Window: 2023-2025. (Oct 2019)"

90-92 points Jasper Morris, MW: "Intensely black, purple rim, with a glorious bouquet, much fresher on the nose than the colour suggests, a huge weight of fruit on the palate with a sucrosity slightly affected by a volatile at the finish. Rich and ripe stuff it must be said. Meaty finish with considerable weight. Cleaner black cherry flavours at the back. There is so much to like about this wine but I have been conservative with the score until I see it again in bottle. (Nov 2019)"

90-92 points William Kelley (Wine Advocate): "The 2018 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes soars from the glass with a rich bouquet of cassis, plums and dark berries mingled with notes of rose petal, loamy soil and grilled meats. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and sapid, with fine concentration, ripe tannins and an expansive finish. Broader and more muscular by comparison with the finer-boned, more incisive Evocelles, this is a classic expression of Gevrey-Chambertin. (Jan 2020)"

91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "Monsieur Bachelet’s 2018 Gevrey old vine bottling is also excellent, with a more reserved personality out of the blocks than the Côte de Nuits Villages. The bouquet wafts from the glass in a promising blend of black plums, black cherries, espresso, meaty tones, black minerality, woodsmoke and just a touch of new oak. On the palate the wine is full-bodied and impeccably balanced, with a sappy core of fruit, fine-grained tannins, good soil signature and a long, nascently complex and promising finish. This will need at least a few years to blossom, but will be very good indeed. 2026-2055. (Nov/Dec 2019)"
