93 points Josh Raynolds (Vinous): "[$23 list] Lurid ruby. A highly expressive bouquet evokes fresh red/blue fruits, Asian spices and smoky minerals, along with a sexy floral pastille nuance. Sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering sappy raspberry, boysenberry and spicecake flavors that are given lift and cut by a spine of juicy acidity. Distinctly elegant in style. Finishes very long and smooth, with silky tannins that fold smoothly into the vibrant fruit. Drink: 2021-2027. (Mar 2018)"

91 points John Gilman (View From the Cellar): "I have seem to have listed the 2014 and 2015 vintages of Monsieur Aufranc’s old vine Chénas bottling differently in the last few reports, so I am combining the two names on the label, so that readers can understand (better than I did!) that these are the same cuvées. The 2016 version of these very old vines is lovely, offering up a young and classic nose of cherries, cranberries, vinesmoke, a touch of nutskin, dark soil tones, a bit of espresso and a topnote of fresh thyme. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and nicely tangy, with a fine core of old vine fruit, excellent soil signature, modest tannins and a long, nascently complex and very nicely balanced finish. This is really, really good Chénas in the making, but it should be given the courtesy of a couple of years in the cellar for the tannins to fully fall away. Fine, fine juice. 2019-2035. (Sep/Oct 2017)"
