94 points Stephan Reinhardt (Wine Advocate): "From low-yielding, 25-year-old vines on calcareous sand and limestone soils, the 2016 Saumur Brézé Clos de la Rue offers an intense bouquet with ripe, almost tropical fruit intermixed with green apples and chalky citrus aromas as well as yeasty and discreet oak notes. Aged for 24 months in barriques that were a combination of new and up to three years old, this is a full-bodied, dense and juicy as well as persistently mineral Chenin with structure, grip and a long and intense yet pure and chalky, highly tensioned and salty finish. This is still young and steely like a Chablis, but it's a big success for a vintage that started off dramatic with spring frosts. Compared to the 2016 Clos David, the Clos de la Rue is the brighter, more filigreed and finessed Chenin. Let it breathe before enjoying its remarkable finesse and elegance. Tasted in May 2018 and February 2019. Drink: 2021-2031. (Oct 2021)"
