***** John Livingstone-Learmonth (The Cradle of The Rhône): "(old Syrah near Le Pigeonnier, includes Le Bois (1934), includes old Syrah on Chaillot, clay influences, 228-litre cask) ****(*) very dark; there’s a gracious concentration on the nose, beef stock, a compact aroma of dark fruits, black olives, some Southern leanings. The palate streams with suave gras, is very fine, together, very good liaison between content and tannins. It carries old vine sève [sap] which gives the wine its touch, texture. “It lacks mineral-length-saline notes”, T Allemand. 24 years 2) (old vine Chaillot) ***** dark robe; there’s a measured elegance on the nose, bright spots of coulis fruit, variety, has density in the fruit, coffee beans. The palate starts richly, ties in incense-floral, powder, perfume, is very typical of Chaillot, gains a spur, lengthens with classic Cornas floral, rose petal notes and powder grain tannins, the balance good. “It’s on peony-floral on the palate,” T Allemand. 25 years 3) (Reynards, ex Noël & Louis Verset, used 228-litre cask) ****** dark red; licorice, black cherry charge on the nose, ripe but stylish, complexity hovers. The palate gives a serene, accomplished run of black cherry with violets and rocky fissure iron tannins. It holds very securely, is grounded on the close, padded with tannins there, couched and compact. It has an intricate make-up, is very long, is Grand Vin, will serve as a big HQ for the blend. 35 years July 2021."

2019 vintage rated 98 points by Josh Raynolds (Vinous): "Glass-staining violet. Heady, mineral-accented black and blue fruits, candied licorice, potpourri, exotic spices and olive scents on the intensely perfumed nose. Pliant, sweet and penetrating on the palate, offering deeply concentrated blackberry, cassis, fruitcake, smoky bacon and floral pastille flavors that are underscored by a vein of juicy acidity. Shows superb depth as well as liveliness and finishes wonderfully long and minerally, with resonating florality and polished tannins adding shape and a firming grip. Drink: 2029-2039."
